About the event

The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, working with the University of Exeter, have been developing a framework for understanding the risks we face as climate and ecological systems become increasingly unstable.
They describe a plausible scenario of 3°C or more of warming by 2050, triggering multiple climate tipping points. The associated human mortality threshold in this scenario is more than four billion deaths. This number was produced by the British insurance industry, and should be taken very, very seriously.
Four billion is almost impossible to comprehend.
What does it mean to actually confront the possibility of loss on that scale? How should it change the way we live, how we organise, and how we care for one another?
4 Billion Dead is an invitation to do just that.
