With your support, ecoACTIVE will launch a community bursary scheme that gives Hackney residents and groups the plants, seeds, habitat materials and hands-on guidance they need to create beautiful, high-quality pollinator habitats for bees and butterflies, right where people live, learn and play.
We are lucky to live in a borough with such amazing green spaces. Despite this, the UK generally is actually one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries:
97% wildflower meadows lost
80% butterfly species declined
35 bee species at risk of extinction.
With schemes such as the Hackney Buzzline, communities in the borough can act for themselves to transform their local spaces so that wildlife can really thrive at the same time.
Solution
Bursaries will provide pollinator-friendly plants and seeds, nesting resources such as bee hotels, alongside practical training for residents, young people and volunteers. This will provide flowers and nesting sites, while building skills and confidence to care for green spaces. Hackney Buzzline surveys have recorded 170+ pollinator species and identified which plants and habitats work best locally, so communities receive proven guidance that turns small spaces into wildlife havens.
