Call to action: Help us get Hackney's two MPs to the 3rd September Parliamentary debate on ecosystem breakdown

On the 3rd September 2026, there will be a landmark debate in Westminster Hall on Ecosystem Breakdown. This will be the first time Andy Burnham's cabinet will answer key questions on climate and nature in a debate and we need to ensure that the Government responds to these warnings in what has already been a summer of crisis.

At the beginning of this year, the Government quietly released the bombshell Global Biodiversity Loss, Ecosystem Collapse and National Security Report.

The report couldn’t have been clearer: nature is not separate from national security; it underpins it, and the breakdown of ecosystems threatens our economic, food and water security. The heat is on and now MPs have a vital opportunity to speak up and demand the Government takes urgent action to restore nature and protect communities.

At a time when communities have struggled under extreme heat, wildfires and drought conditions, we need YOUR MP to step up and speak at a critical debate on biodiversity loss and national security.

We know that the threats of ecosystem breakdown and climate change are no longer hypothetical. The Government report mentioned above, written by intelligence chiefs, makes it clear: every critical ecosystem is now on a pathway to collapse at current rates of biodiversity loss. 

As the report states, without healthy nature we’re staring down the barrel of higher bills, greater instability, more food insecurity, deeper inequality, and more conflict if we fail to act, not in countries far away, but here in the UK. We are looking at an apocalyptic future. 

And don't we all want to feel secure? Put food on the table, homes safe from flooding and wildfires, being able to heat and cool our homes without it breaking the bank. That's what national security means to us - and that's why we must address nature and climate breakdown, to address our national security.
